Hello Flowable Community,
I am evaluating BPMN frameworks for a new project and have been considering Flowable. While comparing Flowable 6.x and 7.x, I noticed that key components like the UI Designer and Process Management applications are not included in the open-source package of version 7.x. This raises a few concerns for me:
- Open Source Commitment: Is Flowable moving toward a model similar to Camunda 8.x, where core features remain open source, but critical tools for production use require a paid subscription? If so, could you clarify the roadmap and vision for the open-source community?
- UI and Process Management Tools: With these tools now part of the enterprise package, is there a plan to release equivalent open-source alternatives or maintain compatibility with external tools like bpmn.io for modeling?
- Impact on Development Workflow: What strategies would you recommend for users transitioning from 6.x to 7.x, especially when tools like the open-source UI Designer are essential for process development and management?
Any insights into Flowable’s long-term open-source strategy and suggestions for mitigating these changes would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
